Friendly little helpers or narrow-minded allotment garden ornaments? "Opinions differ on the garden gnome," says Dr Inga Remmers, director of the Stadtmuseum Hofheim city museum. The new exhibition from 12 March to 18 June at the Stadtmuseum Hofheim city museum, entitled "Die riesige Welt der Zwerge. Zwerge in Kunst und Literatur" ["The Gigantic World of Gnomes. Gnomes in Art and Literature"], explores how the figure of the gnome became an ironised personification of the German citizen. > more

A special kind of exhibition will open on 18 March: "An Approach to the Inexplicable" – as the Kunstverein KiSS im Schloss Untergröningen art association, the organiser of the event, has called it. The eponymous "Glasshouse" is symptomatic of the world in which we live and where we are constantly involved in throwing stones. > more

To mark the 100th birthday of Franz Mack, the founder of the Europa-Park theme park, Ottmar Hörl was invited to develop a sculptural installation featuring a multiplicity of golden "Europa" figures. The serial sculptures in the shape of roly-poly dolls will be on show at Europa-Park in Rust from 2 July until the end of October. They can be viewed at the end of "Deutsche Allee". > more
