Sculptural Installation „Mozart - The Untamable Genius“, Salzburg

On 16 July 2026 the sculptural installation "Mozart – The Untamable Genius" will open in the Mirabell Gardens in Salzburg, in collaboration with the International Mozarteum Foundation.

To mark the 270th anniversary of Wolfgang Amadé Mozart Ottmar Hörl is able to realise an art project that has long been on his mind, and Salzburg, as Mozart's birthplace, is the ideal location to honour the genius on his anniversary with a temporary art installation.

The focus will not only be on Mozart's musical output, but also on bringing his human side more into the spotlight. It was not only music that played a major role in the Mozart family, but also their beloved four-legged friend named Pimperl. In the Mozart family's correspondence, this four-legged friend is mentioned dozens of times. Mozart's affection for animals is evident here, and so the series of sculptures depicts Wolfgang Amadé Mozart together with a dog.

400 of the monochrome gold-coloured sculptures are making their way to Salzburg. They will be on display until 31. August 2026 in the Bastion/Museum Pavilion area, in Mozart's Birthplace, in the Magic Flute Cottage and in the Mozarteum gardens.

As the transition from public to private space is part of the artistic concept, Mozart fans will have the opportunity to purchase an original iece from the installation at the end of the exhibition.
