Caroline Mathilde (1751–1775) was born a British princess and was known as Queen of Denmark and Norway from 1766 to 1772 as the wife of Christian VII. At the beginning of 1772, she was divorced because of her affair and banished to Celle. She spent the last years of her life in Celle, where she died at the age of only 23.
On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of Caroline Mathilde's death, 1000 golden Caroline Mathilde sculptures by conceptual artist Ottmar Hörl are on display in front of Celle Castle.
The golden queens are sold at a price of 95,00 € each, or 190,00 € with signature. The sculpture will be available at the Bomann Museum (Schlossplatz 7) from 16. August 2025.
Those interested should just send an email to CM-Verkauf@Celle.de with the following information: name, email address, and number of figures desired.
The installation can be seen from 14. August 2025 to 14. September 2025. At the same time, the special exhibition "Alles in Ordnung" ["Everything is in Order"] with selected series of works by Ottmar Hörl takes place at the Kunstmuseum Celle until September 14. September 2025.
