Sculptural Installation „Pierre Boulez“, Baden-Baden

To mark the 100th birthday of Pierre Boulez (1925-2016), Baden-Baden honours the important French composer and conductor with a special art event. Boulez, who is regarded worldwide as a pioneer of the musical avant-garde and is one of the world's leading conductors, lived in the spa town for many years.

In order to give this outstanding personality a stronger visual presence, the city's cultural office has been able to win the conceptual artist Ottmar Hörl over. From 31. May 2025 to 09. June 2025, 100 serial Boulez sculptures in bronze will be installed in front of the festival theatre as part of the Pierre Boulez Year.

The respectfully realised serial sculpture embodies Pierre Boulez's artistic attitude: he was not interested in conventions. He conducted neither in a tailcoat nor with a baton, set the highest standards and focussed on the essentials. In action, portrayed devoted to the people, he smiles, has internalised the music, wears a suit and shirt, avoids the tie - and maintains an upright, open posture.

Everyone who gets in touch with the installation becomes part of the art project. The installation will be dissolved after the temporary presentation to the public, as the shift from public to private space is part of the artistic concept. Boulez fans have the opportunity to buy "their Boulez, take home with them and thus carry it out to the world. The purchase of one of the sculptures supports the refinancing of the project.

The sculpture "Pierre Boulez" is available from 31. May 2025 in the Wagener fashion stores in Baden-Baden.
