Sculptural Installation ”Konrad Adenauer" in Bad Honnef, 2026

Konrad Adenauer is one of Germany's most important political figures. His work was characterised by a deep dedication to democracy and a united Europe. He was convinced that lasting political success can only be reached through dialogue, cooperation, mutual respect and respectful exchange.

To mark the 150th birth anniversary of Konrad Adenauer, conceptual artist Ottmar Hörl is dedicating a sculptural installation to the first chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany on 23 May 2026 - Constitution Day - on the Kirchplatz in Bad Honnef.

In collaboration with the town of Bad Honnef, the Foundation Bundeskanzler-Adenauer-Haus in Rhöndorf and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Berlin, 250 Adenauer sculptures in matt gold and ultramarine blue are on display.

This is not a traditional monument, but a work that serves as a model for communication.

Konrad Adenauer looks at the spectator in a friendly yet very present manner. The sculptures, in a sense, create contact and become a surface onto which people can project their own thoughts.

The presentation invites visitors to shift their perspectives and see things from a new point of view. It encourages reflection and opens up a dialogue between the past and the present. This project is intended as an impulse and invitation to share ideas and think further. After all, democracy and European and global understanding remain long-term goals.
