Sculptural Installation "Youngster" on Sylt, 2025

In cooperation with Kunsthaus Uerpmann and the municipality of Sylt, conceptual artist Ottmar Hörl has created the extraordinary sculpture installation 'Youngster' with over 200 bronze-coloured seals on the lawn of Platz Neue Mitte in Westerland on Sylt.

The seals symbolise the North Sea habitat. The sculptural installation focuses primarily on art and nature, protection of the sea and mudflats and awareness of the animal world.

"My animal sculptures have always emerged from specific contexts, ideas and places. In general, however, they also symbolise life itself, the existence of all living things on our planet. We should therefore treat other living beings with great love and care, respect them and protect them," emphasises Hörl. "The installation should also bring people joy and get them talking to each other. And unlike real seals, the sculptures can be touched with care."

The installation will be open to the public from 14. June 2025 to 12. September 2025.

For every sold sculpture, 10 euros will go to the "Deutsche Stiftung Meeresschutz" ["German Foundation for Marine Protection"].
