Berlin–Baerlin, 2000

Berlin – Bearlin, 2000 – Large-scale sculpture with 10,000 Berlin bears, Unter den Linden, Berlin.

As Berlins´ contribution to the »Boulevard Metropolis« Ottmar Hörl has picked up the rapid development of the city as his theme. Elsewhere in the world it takes several generations to develop changes, but Berlin has been moving on rather rapidly. Ottmar Hörl has made this process obvious as he duplicated it on the heraldic animal of Berlin, the bear. 10.000 bears are strolling from the Brandenburger Tor along of the Unter-den-Linden all the way to Friedrichstrasse. They are on their way into the world to serve the town as cultural attachés. During their development the bears have obviously adjusted to the environment.
