The 250th anniversary of this musical genius's birthday will be celebrated in December 2020.
Last year's presentation of the figure of a smiling Beethoven in Bonn, where the composer was born, was a resounding success. A Beethoven installation at Wertheim Village – in strong pop colours – is now on view. Running until mid-September.
Numerous colourful Beethoven sculptures, just under a metre in height and with a smile on their lips, have taken over the main squares in Wertheim Village, near Frankfurt/Main. Their smile is contagious and their intense colours make for eye-catching highlights inviting observers to interact with the figures.
Ottmar Hörl's intention is not to create another historically sound image of the composer but to playfully investigate a new approach to the interaction between artwork and on-looker. This is an essential element of the "one last great adventure" – art, as seen, and created, by Ottmar Hörl.
The Beethoven sculptural project will be on show at Wertheim Village until 13 September.
